Boston Day Date

When you have to pick up your aunt from the airport, you head to the city early and make a day of it... especially because Boston is 30 minutes away and we don't visit it nearly enough.    We stopped for lunch at an amazing Brazilian steakhouse, Fogo De Chao. The meats melt in your mouth, the salad bar is gigantic, and the fried bananas are a perfect dessert. Make sure to go hungry because the food just keeps coming until you tell them to stop... my kind of place!      We then strolled around the city hand in hand; ducking into little shops on Newbury Street, admiring the brownstones and parks, watching street entertainers. Escaped from the heat at L.A. Burdick for iced chocolatey drinks that were thick, rich and delicious. Note to self: next time, share a drink and don't get dessert to go with it. Washing chocolate down with chocolate is sometimes a little too much chocolate!      Guys... they have a whole store of Harry Potter stuff! I can't believe I had

End of Summer Shenanigans

Every morning starts the same, Riley jumps up on the bed when she hears my alarm go off at 0430 (thankfully she is persistent about going outside at that hour because otherwise I'd never make it to the gym before work), I throw on some shorts, convince the other two pups to wake up from their slumber, everyone gets their leash on, and we head outside for a morning pee.  The world is dark and quiet, usually the only light comes from the traffic light... and usually I'm warm in my tshirt and shorts. But this week, the air was crisp... the kind you want embracing you while you're wearing a sweatshirt and sipping warm coffee.  Fall has officially started to flirt with summer and I couldn't be happier. Now, don't get me wrong, I love summer... but there is nothing better than cool mornings, apple pie, pumpkin spice, flannel, fires, and a world that looks like it's on fire. I'm a basic bitch... what can I say?  Plus, in between our busy work schedules

Tinder... who knew

"They slipped briskly into an intimacy from which they never recovered."  F. Scott Fitzgerald  Last night, Ben and I were laying in bed talking.. sappy talk.. the kind you do when you know you're about to spend a week apart. And I remember us talking about how we are both marrying our best friend. I'm not sure how I got lucky enough to be marrying my best friend.. but we have officially booked a destination wedding in the Dominican Republic in Fall 2018!  So I think it's an appropriate time to share the story of how we met... on Tinder. It's okay, judge away...  ... alright, out of your system?  Phew.  Now let me take you back to my life in 2015: I was a physician assistant working long days at a hospital over an hour away from home in Hartford, owned my own house, had two dogs and a mini farm.. I had it all figured out except I was missing one thing.. I was missing someone to share everything with. The happy times, the sad times, the

Do not let the world make you hard.

I work in the ICU. Ben is a police officer. As you can imagine, we both see people at their absolute worst and there are some days I feel like I've become a cold person. I go home with a sense of complete and utter disappointment in humanity. So many people are unfixable... nothing we do in an attempt to fix them will ever be enough because they just aren't willing to help themselves. It can be so unbelievably frustrating.  And I hate when I catch myself being judgemental and heartless. I've never been in the shoes of these people and therefore have no business judging them.  One day, I remember going home so frustrated with my patients... after Ben listened to me bitch about my day, he said some things that have stuck with me since. He reminded me that most people are good... that the ones we see are undergoing a difficult time and, although they may disappoint us, we cannot umbrella everyone else in this category. Most people are good. On that day, what he told m
