A Nantucket Wedding

the small little island of nantucket off the coast of massachusetts is the most lovely destination in the summertime. the cobblestone streets,  hydrangeas, beaches, oysters.. so much new england charm.. it's perfection and my most favorite place to visit.

ben and i started a tradition of traveling to nantucket each summer and it's a week i look forward to so much. it's also been a place where we've made some of our sweetest memories that we'll treasure for a lifetime. we got engaged and married on the island!
okay, lets take a step back because you're probably a little confused when i said we were married on the island.. but you may also remember a few blog posts ago when i mentioned we were planning our 3 weddings.. yup, that was not a typo!

ben and i decided to do a destination wedding in the dominican republic in september.. after talking with a few friends and my future sister/brother-in-law who did the same thing, they all were legally married prior to their actual destination wedding and we followed in their footsteps. a legal wedding in a foreign country was a little scary for me as i did not want to wake up in 10 years and find out ben and i were never actually married.. so we got legally married in our favorite place.. nantucket.

since our nantucket wedding was just the legal aspect, we decided to keep it very simple. we did not invite any family or friend, didn't exchange rings, didn't recite the vows we've written for each other. we called the town hall and set up a date with a woman who works there and is a justice of the peace.. she was so amazing.. she allowed us to pick any location, read us her own ceremony/vows and then followed us around taking tons of pictures! it was simple and perfect.
now, we've had so many questions about which date we'll celebrate as our anniversary and the answer is the dominican republic. that will be the day i wear a fancy dress and walk down the aisle towards my groom. the day we are surrounded by our family and friends. the day we exchange our personal vows and rings. the day that turns into night as we celebrate under the stars.
we chose brant point lighthouse for our ceremony as it is an iconic location which overlooks nantucket harbor and is the most welcoming sight for those visiting the island. it is also the home of a coast guard base. we decided to have our ceremony in the morning to avoid the summer heat and crowds and thankfully the forecasted rain did not join us. i nearly cried as the jp read us her ceremony and i had butterflies in my stomach as ben and i legally became husband and wife. the wind in my hair, the waves crashing around us, the boats moving in and out of the harbor, the most handsome man i've ever seen standing in front of me. it was absolutely perfect.

are you all ready for picture overload? you should know me by now.. there are always lots and lots!
during our mini ceremony, an older gentleman with his dog saw us and came over to say congratulations. he told us that many years ago, he and his wife were married in the very same spot.. he then offered to take a picture of us with our jp while his wet dog rolled around in the sand and shook all over her book. so funny.
after the jp took a million pictures for us and headed back to work, ben and i sat on the rocks under the lighthouse and overlooking the harbor and popped a bottle of veuve clicquot.
can you see the cork in mid-air? it surprised ben and made a super loud noise.. we might have even scared a few fishermen who were in front of us.. sorry guys!
after drinking the (mini) bottle of champagne on an empty stomach, we decided it would be a good idea to attempt pistols (in a dress.. classy). i was slightly buzzed and it was a struggle but we managed.. i promise i'm not holding on!
don't mind my bra sticking out.. i was a little excited to have just married my best friend.
since the wedding was in the morning, we headed back to our hotel room to change and enjoy the day at cisco brewery (more on that later). and then we changed back into our pretty clothes and had a delicious dinner complete with the most amazing sunset and creme brûlée at galley beach.

oh, and the pretentious people sitting next to us were so judgy. i overhead them talking to each other about how we only ordered a drink at this fancy restaurant. no you jerks.. you just arrived after we ate dinner! and just because we look young doesn't mean we don't work our butts off every day so we can enjoy nice things! okay, end of rant.
oh how i wish i could go back in time and relive this day again. it was my favorite day out of all my days yet!

and now, it's almost time for our big wedding in the dominican republic! i'm so excited and can't wait to share all the details with you guys!

happy saturday loves
