a letter to our future little boy

hi little one,

it's 10 o'clock at night and i'm sitting in bed, surrounded by your three puppy siblings, tired from a long day of work and missing your daddy. right now you're just a figment of my imagination... a dream... one that i relive over and over in my mind. a dream i can't wait to make a reality. you know, there was a time in my life i could never imagine myself as a mother... this all changed when i met your dad... a man i am more than proud to call your father.

your daddy has been talking about you for a long time. a boy. one he can take hunting and coach little league and spend hours doing projects with. ultimately, it's his heart that i hope you find. i pray that one day you resemble him... a man who puts others before himself, who works hard and never asks for recognition, and who takes care of his family... always putting us first. i can't wait to see you both together... to see your daddy's mischievous eyes when i look into yours.

baby boy, you are entering a mean and scary world... one filled with hate and violence and pain. but this same world is also beautiful and filled with love and hope and opportunity. and guess what? you get to decide what version you live in. i hope and pray you never let the world make you hard... that you choose to see the good in people and fall in love with being alive.

i hope you read books, sing in the shower, swing as high as you can and run through the mud while it's pouring rain. i hope you climb the tallest mountains and swim in the deepest oceans and never stop asking questions.

please study because learning is important and try out for every sport you think you might enjoy... take advantage of those athletic genes your daddy gave you. take a stand and fight for things you believe in... even if it means standing alone. listen to your gut feelings and avoid situations that make you feel uncomfortable.

kiddo, wait until you see what we have in store for you... this chaos we call our life. your amazing family. your crazy puppies who will be jealous of you at first and then become your first best friends. it might be crazy but you will fit in just fine and love every second of it... i'm sure of it.

one day we'll get to watch disney movies together and read harry potter books before bed and watch you play baseball or football or soccer or maybe all of the above. you're going to get spoiled by your grandmas and have sleep overs with your cousins... and i can only imagine the trouble you and colton will get into... i’m pretty sure he’s already planning.

i hope to give you a childhood that is full of adventure. a life that is simple... one that does not require you to grow up prematurely. one that is filled with opportunities and laughter and dream chasing.

i can't wait to meet you and hold you in my arms and watch you grow. please bear with your daddy and i... we'll all be doing a lot of figuring out together. but we'll make it and you will be forever loved by so many people.

see you in time little one.
