St Kitts

Each island on our cruise brought new excitement and St Kitts was no exception. From the little we had the opportunity to explore, this island seemed more rural and untouched compared to the others. The views of mountains and palm trees and seemingly never-ending beaches could take your breath away. Without knowing what we were doing at the time, we planned a paddle boarding trip which was perfect for absorbing the views.

We were shuttled off to a remote beach and wasted no time getting on our boards. Neither of us had been paddle boarding before so naturally we had no idea what to expect. Ben being the stellar athlete and me being the clumsy, uncoordinated one, I thought for sure he'd be off and running (or shall I say paddling) while I spent the majority of my time falling into the ocean. Much to my surprise I didn't fall in once and Ben took a few spills... one in particular where he seemed to be in slow motion and took a good 30 seconds trying to save himself... which he failed at and we all got a good laugh.

The water was crystal clear and we could see starfish the size of cantaloupe on the ocean floor at least  10 feet below. We made sure to bring our GoPro for pictures on the water but the darn thing turned on in our bag and the battery was dead before we had the chance to use it! Thankfully we were able to snap a few on shore.

After paddle boarding, we grabbed a drink at a tiny tiki shack on the water and day dreamed about quitting our jobs and opening one of our own.

This sign, as you can imagine, captured my attention because who doesn't want to see a monkey? Then the stubborn little guys didn't show their faces until it was time to head back towards town and every picture I took of them came out blurry! But don't worry... evidently St Kitts is filled with monkeys....

We found more monkeys in town... and not just any monkeys... ones wearing clothes and diapers and munching on sugar cane! As you can see, despite their cuteness, I was a tiny bit uneasy about a diaper-wearing monkey crawling on my head...

But even after one mistook my finger for his sugarcane, I warmed up to them... kind of.

And Ben was a natural monkey-holder.

So, if you get the chance, definitely go visit the monkeys 🐒🐒🐒
