By the time I post this, the clock will have struck midnight and it will be officially summer. Although I'm an autumn girl at heart, there is something enchanting about the daylight that lingers late into the evening, the refreshing colors that appear after a grey winter, the lifted spirits of everyone I meet. And there is nothing more perfect than a summer day with just the right amount of humidity mixed with a refreshing breeze... especially when we don't have to work and can enjoy it together. We even got a jump start at checking off my summer bucket list this past week!
Work is always so busy for both Ben and I but I think we've figured out a manageable balance that keeps us sane. We take advantage of every day off... some days we go on adventures... other days we spend binge watching Hawaii Five-0 and finally catching up on some sleep... and every day I remind myself to stop worrying about the messy house (the struggle is beyond real).
Having three dogs... about 300 pounds worth... can be a challenge at times. Although they can all fit in our cars at the same time, they can be difficult to manage in public when we bring everyone... never mind the fear they induce in just about everyone we walk by. So lately we've been taking turns with who gets to come along for the day. Unfortunately, Mya cannot leave the house without Riley throwing a fit (Riley hates being away from her sissy) so when Mya comes, Riley also tags along.
Last week we packed up some snacks, loaded Ryder in the Jeep and headed to Nashoba Valley Winery for a late afternoon picnic.
Ryder had to step away from our picnic spot when another dog came around the corner... in typical male akita fashion he wanted to eat the other pup. Such a jerk.
Love my handsome boys.
He clearly needs to work on keeping his eyes open for pictures...

Tall ships came to Boston this past weekend so we took a day trip to the city and wandered around with Miss Riley. The ships looked like they were straight out of a pirate movie. And I'm still amazed how people actually sail these things... especially in the direction they actually want... is it really all wind? What happens when there isn't wind? Do they have a motor just in case? I think I'll stick to passenger on boats and steer clear of captain.
We stopped at Harpoon Brewery where Riley and I shared a beer (don't worry, she only had one sip) and danced to Cindy Lauper's "Girls just wanna have fun."
Riley takes after her brother and also doesn't know how to keep her eyes open for pictures. This little girl had a meltdown every time one of us left to go to the bathroom... separation anxiety at its finest.
We grabbed gyros for lunch at Quincy Market.
And some dessert at the Cookie Monstah truck.
Perfect days.
Your dogs are BEAUTIFUL. There is something so majestic about big dogs.
