can we hold on to these warm sweet summer days for a tiny bit longer? i’m loving that autumn is here but this summer topped all my summers and i’m not quite ready for it to be over yet..

cape cod in the summertime is such a lovely place. the beaches are warm, the seafood is out of this world, the colors are vibrant.. and when you're with amazing company you most definitely can't beat it.
my auntie jeanne lives in california and usually only visits during the christmas holiday season. christmas and her are synonymous.. and the only christmas she wasn't able to come back home, i wrote a paper in elementary school about how that was all i wanted from santa. so, needless to say, she has figured out a way to return to the east coast every christmas since!
this year she was able to visit for almost a month in July which was perfect as she was here for my wedding shower and ben and i got to spend a night with her at the cape! it was a short but very special trip for me and one i'll always remember. i was so happy my aunt and ben were able to get to know each other and she showed us some of her favorite places that she grew up visiting.
we all stayed at my aunt's friend's house in truro which was stunning.. beautiful gardens, floor to ceiling windows, wrap around decks, beautiful artwork and a mile from the beach.
when ben and i arrived, auntie jeanne showed us around the property and we sipped on a glass of wine outside before we headed out for some exploring. then, we all hopped in the red and roofless jeep wrangler and headed to the beach for a late afternoon walk.
i couldn't believe how warm and calm the ocean was.. and crystal clear which was perfect for shell searching. i even found a small and unfortunately dead horseshoe crab which was sad but so awesome!
after our beach stroll, we headed back to the house to swap out cars as the wrangler only had 2 real seats.. i'm pretty sure if we got pulled over, the police officer would not have appreciated the beach chair i used as a third seat in the back.. and headed to provincetown.
first stop was race point beach for just a quick peak at the sunset before heading into town. by the way.. did you see the recent video on social media of the great white devouring a seal right off this same beach? so crazy!
provincetown is filled with the most beautiful streets lined with quintessential new england beach town cottages. we drove up and down the narrow roads as auntie jeanne pointed out hotels and restaurants she visited nearly 50 years before.
we ended up at the lobster pot for dinner and, as we waited for our table, stood on a deck overlooking provincetown harbor, made new friends and sipped on cocktails and crisp white wine. for dinner we shared a million oysters (are you surprised?) and a whole bunch of appetizers and finished our night sharing fresh pistachio ice cream.. auntie jeanne talked about this ice cream at dinner.. how it was white (not artificial green like most) and the most delicious she ever had.. well, thank goodness the ice cream shop is still open decades later but it really was amazing.
this was such a sweet memory.. i'm so glad we were able to spend it together.
